The Masonic Eye is a symbolic representation of the Eye of God. It represents God’s watchfulness over the Universe and his care of the universe.
The Masonic Eye or The All Seeing Eye has been used by other civilizations in the past.
Egyptians and Hebrews: The Egyptians and the Hebrews started using the symbol of the Masonic Eye due to figurative thinking from those who thought that the Eye was a symbol of God’s All Seeing capability. The hand was seen as a symbol of fidelity, the arm was seen as a symbol of strength and the human foot was seen as a symbol of swiftness.
There are some biblical verses that tells more about the Eye of God.
Psalm 34:15- ‘The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.’
Psalm 121:4- ‘Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.’
There is a small passage in the Book of conversation of God with Moses on Mount Sinai. The book was translated from Reverend W. Cureton and published by the Philobiblon Society of London.
In the passage, Moses asked God if He sleeps or not. And God told him that He never sleeps. God told Moses to fill up a cup of water and He made Moses to sleep. Moses slept and the cup of water fell from his hand and the water spilled on the ground.
When Moses woke up, God told Moses that if He slept and stopped watching over the Universe, the Universe will come to ruin and destruction the same way the cup of water fell while Moses slept.
Osiris, the Egyptian God: Osiris was the chief deity of the Egyptians. He was represented by the symbol of an open eye. Hieroglyphics containing this symbol of Osiris were placed all over their temples.
The symbolic name of Osiris was placed on monuments and represented by the eye placed by a throne. Sometimes, the abbreviated figure of a god was added to the symbol. The whole representation was sometimes called a hatchet or a representation of a square.
In Proverbs 15:3, King Solomon spoke about the All Seeing Eye of God.
Proverbs 15:3- ‘The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.’
The Creator, the Master Architect of the Universe has no beginning and no end. He has always existed and He will always exist. He is Omnipresent (everywhere at a time) and Omnipotent (unlimited power).
The Masonic Eye of God watches over us and everything in the Universe.
